Day 1: The first comic that got you hooked on DC?
I read archive comic books form the library. If I am not mistaken this is the first one I picked up. All Star Comics. The only superhero I recognized at the time was Hawkman and Wonderwoman. (Also I wouldn’t say I am hooked on DC, I read the archives like crazy, I’m hooked on golden and silver age.)

EVERY TIME SOMEONE BRINGS UP THE LIBRARY OF ALEXANDRIA I GET SO ANGRY.
but why
Because it got burned. All of that knowledge, lost forever.
The library was destroyed over 1000’s of years ago. The library consisted of thousands of scrolls and books about mathematics, engineering, physiology, geography, blueprints, medicine, plays, & important scriptures. Thinkers from all over the Mediterranean used to come to Alexandria to study. Most of the major work of civilization up until that point was lost. If the library still survived till this day, society may have been more advanced and we would sure know more about the ancient world.

Angie is a therapy dog who comes into the library and lets kids read to her so that kids who are struggling with reading can gain confidence. Every time I’ve seen her in the library she’s always wagging her tail for the kids and is very attentive.
Books float on the street after a library on Rue Jacob, Paris is flooded during the Great 1910 Parisian Flood .
This is what we mean when we talk about white supremacy. Cops are allowed to persecute and kill black people without any repercussions, mass white media is on their side who then influences the general public; “they were a thug, they had it coming, they had detention in the 6th grade, they had overdue library books”. Kill you, criminalize your corpse, erase your humanity. Another candle snuffed out because you happened to be born with the wrong skin
Reading in Restraint: The Last Chained Libraries
In the Middle Ages, books were incredibly scarce, and although many wanted to share knowledge with the masses, they didn’t quite trust the public. So the chained library was born, and while most of these restrained reading collections have vanished, a rare few still exist, looking much as they did centuries ago.
Come with us for a tour of the world’s last remaining chained libraries, on Atlas Obscura!
